In celebration of the upcoming Chinese Lunar New Year, “TheCharms of Flowers – Exhibition of Traditional Chinese Flower Arrangements”, jointly organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau and the Macau Academy of Flower Arrangement Designers, will be held at Jao Tsung-I Academy from tomorrow, 2 February. Featuring assorted seasonal blossoming flowers exquisitely arranged in six types of traditional Chinese containers, this exhibition gracefully presents the unique charm of the art of Chinese flower arrangement. The exhibition will be open to the public until 31 July 2016. Admission is free and all are welcome to visit.

Traditional Chinese flower arrangement has a long history. Regarded as a cultural essence of historic, artistic and cultural value, it was inscribed on the national list of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2008. Six types of containers, namely plate, vase, cistern, bowl, tube and basket, known as the “six major containers for Traditional Chinese flower arrangements”, are used in traditional Chinese flower arrangements as tools. They play a vital role in the overall composition of the arrangements, highlighting the theme and strengthening the artistic concept. Exhibits in the show are provided by the Macau Academy of Flower Arrangement Designers and themed around the six major types of traditional Chinese containers. This showcase of traditional Chinese flower arrangements allows visitors to take a closer look at these works and acquire a better understanding of its cultural value. The exhibition celebrates the Year of the Monkey in an aromatic and festive atmosphere.
